Episode 1

Electromagnetism and Energy Medicine
Without energy life would be extinguished instantaneously, and the cellular fabric would collapse.
Nobel Laureate Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

All atoms, chemical and cells produce electromagnetic fields (EMFs). Every organ in the body produces its own signature electromagnetic field. Our bodies actually create their own magnetic fields and the 70 trillion cells in our body communicate via electromagnetic frequencies. While electromagnetic diagnostic and therapeutic devices are already in widespread use in conventional medicine, several new approaches in energy medicine will be explored in this segment. These approaches include pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF), frequency specific cancer therapies, magnetic field therapies to restore optimal cellular function.

The possible health impacts of modern electromagnetic wireless radiation from cell phones, cordless phones, Wi-Fi devices and cell towers will also be explored to encourage a precautionary approach in the use of these devices and inform the viewer of these modern hidden dangers in our environment.

Camilla Rees, MBA

After a career in investment banking, venture capital and marketing communications, Ms. Rees now is dedicated to serving the transformation of health care so that it better meets patient needs and to raising awareness of hidden, unacknowledged drivers of health care costs. In the area of advocacy she has applied her marketing and strategic PR skills to many issues including health care freedom of choice and the critical emerging public health issue of microwave radiation's impact on human, animal and environmental health.

Camilla has organized many panels on health, health care reform and environmental topics. She has addressed the White House Commission on Complementary & Alternative Medicine Policy, Young President's Organization, Bioneers, World Congress of Integrative Medicine, Health Freedom Expo, Columbia University Law School, the U.S. Congress and the Commonwealth Club of California, the nation's largest public affairs forum.

Camilla founded www.ElectromagneticHealth.org, an EMF Education project. With Prof. Magda Havas, PhD, she co-authored a book on electromagnetic factors in health in 2008 called Public Health SOS: The Shadow Side of the Wireless Revolution, sent to Congress, Governors and thousands of health and environmental journalists. In 2009 she also launched her own radio show at KGNU in Boulder/Denver, covering health, environmental and sustainability topics. She co-authored a landmark report, “Cellphones and Brain Tumors: 15 Reasons for Concern”, which has received news coverage globally. Most recently, Camilla launched Campaign for Radiation Free Schools on Facebook. Camilla is a graduate of Choate Rosemary Hall, Columbia University and Georgetown University Graduate School of Business Administration.

David Carpenter, MD

David O. Carpenter is a public health physician who received his MD degree from Harvard Medical School. His current position is Director of the Institute for Health and the Environment at the University at Albany, as well as Professor of Environmental Health Sciences within the School of Public Health at the University at Albany. The Institute which he directs has recently been identified as a Collaborating Center of the World Health Organization.

After directing a 5 million dollar research program that studied adverse human health effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs), the program concluded that while there were effects of EMFs on many organ systems, a particular concern was an increased incidence of leukemia in children living in home with elevated magnetic fields. He has continued to evaluate research in this area, and has edited two books and written several review articles on the subject. He has more than 350 peer reviewed publications and has edited five books. He is the Co-Editor of the Bioinitiative Report (www.bioinitiative.org), published first in 2007 and revised in 2012. This is a comprehensive review of the effects of EMFs.

William Pawluk, MD

Dr Pawluk is an American Board-Certified Family Physician, with training in Acupuncture, homeopathy, hypnosis, energy medicine and bodywork. He has had academic faculty appointments at a number of universities including most recently Johns Hopkins and the University of Maryland. He currently practices holistic medicine in Baltimore and has appeared regularly on a health radio show at www.wcbm.com for 10 years. In addition he is an international expert in the medical use of electromagnetic fields with over 25 years of experience. In recognition of this experience he has appeared on the Dr OZ show regarding magnetic therapy devices. As part of his work with this technology, he has authored books, chapters, articles and done numerous interviews on magnetics, conducted research on the use of various kinds of electromagnetic systems on wound healing and other applications, and teaches practitioners on the appropriate use of magnetic therapies.

He was formerly Vice President of the North American Academy for Magnetic Therapy, responsible for the annual conferences for many years. To be able to continue to educate both the public and practitioners and help make this valuable technology available to consumers, he has established an authoritative website www.drpawluk.com, reviewing the science and various therapy options. He is also currently writing a Handbook of Magnetic Therapy.

Boris Pasche, MD

Boris Pasche M.D. is a physician, scientist and board-certified oncologist specialized in the treatment of patients with gastrointestinal tumors such as hepatocellular carcinoma. He was trained in Internal Medicine at the New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center and received his clinical training in Hematology/Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. In 2000, he moved to Northwestern University where he established the Northwestern University Cancer Genetics Program and served as leader of the Cancer Genes and Molecular Targeting Program of the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center. From 2008 until 2014 he was Director of the Division of Hematology/Oncology of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Professor of Medicine with tenure, Martha Ann and David L. May Chair in Cancer Research and Deputy Director of the UAB Comprehensive. In March 2014, he became Director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center and Chair of the Department of Cancer Biology at Wake Forest in North Carolina.

He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, most of which in high impact journals such as Journal of the American Medical Association, Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, Science, Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Human Molecular Genetics, Cancer Research and British Journal of Cancer. He edited a book entitled “Cancer Genetics”. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association. He received the Ohio State University Human Cancer Genetics Program Commemorative Medal in 2007.
